The country experienced a peaceful electoral day on Sunday with high voter turnout. It was a democratic exercise where the citizens decided with their votes that a woman will govern Mexico for the next six years.

This decision, as we already know, fell on Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Besides becoming the first woman to occupy the Presidency of Mexico in the coming months, she is also a graduate of our University and a distinguished member of its academic body.

As the rector of her University, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), I extend heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Sheinbaum for her victory. I wish her the greatest success for the good of our country. Of course, I reaffirm that the Nation’s University, in its plurality, will continue contributing to national development and supporting all initiatives that benefit the people of Mexico.
